Tyner Middle Academy students commit to Recycle Right!
Students at Tyner Middle Academy are making a commitment to Recycle Right in their school and encourage others to do the same. Tyner Middle Academy is implementing a school-wide recycling program with a large education component. They presented this program to the public on Monday, November 19. Rocky at Go!Fest
On Saturday, October 13, Rocky joined his fellow Chattanoogans at Warner Park Zoo and Frost Stadium for Go!Fest. Rocky was greeted with warm hugs and high-fives as he participated in the fun activities. Additionally, Rocky took the stage with Samantha Gilley, an 18-year-old blind rider and athlete who has survived nine cancer treatments. When she was 6 weeks old doctors gave her a 10 percent chance of reaching her first birthday, but she celebrated her 18th birthday this year. She and Rocky took the stage to encourage others to recycle. Together they placed a plastic bottle in a blue recycle bin and the audience cheered. Samantha and Rocky wanted to let everyone know that even those with disabilities care about the environment and can do their part to Recycle Right. |

Rocky at the Autumn Children’s Festival
Thousands of families in Chattanooga enjoyed the beautiful weather at the Autumn Children’s Festival to benefit the Ronald McDonald House--October 6 and 7. Rocky and volunteers from Team Recycle took part in the activities and educated citizens about the importance of recycling and Recycling Right! Rocky was even asked to sign a few autographs. |

Rocky and Team Recycle at 2007's CultureFest
We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for the 2007 CultureFest at Coolidge Park, September 29! Chattanoogans enjoyed all the fun activities while being able to recycle their waste at this year’s CultureFest. As a special treat, Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle came out to meet fellow Chattanoogans and encourage them to use the Recycle Right bins at the CultureFest. Team Recycle volunteers also answered questions from citizens about recycling in Chattanooga and how to Recycle Right. Countless Chattanoogans knew Rocky by name and asked him to play football, fly a kite, play the drums, catch a frisbee and dance with them as they enjoyed this beautiful Saturday in Coolidge Park. A special THANKS! to everyone who helped make this event—and especially recycling at this event—possible! We were very pleased to see Chattanoogans Recycle Right at 2007’s CultureFest and keep recyclable waste out of the landfill. |

Grand Opening of Patten Convenience Center
The newest Recycling Convenience Center (Recycling Drop-Off Center) officially opened September 14 at 3202 Kelly’s Ferry Road in Lookout Valley. The addition of the John A. Patten Recycling Convenience Center is the fourth such center now open in the city of Chattanooga. |

United Way of Greater Chattanooga community kickoff carnival, August 23
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle volunteers joined United Way of Greater Chattanooga at their community kickoff carnival on Thursday, August 23. The circus-themed carnival was a large event open to the public and featured clowns, gymnasts, unicyclists, face-painting, crafts and a petting zoo. Rocky joined in the fun to encourage recycling in Chattanooga and greet members of the community. He marched in the parade and made lots of new friends. Rocky and Team Recycle volunteers distributed coloring pages and Recycle Right stickers. They also talked to members of the community about the importance of recycling and Recycling Right! Earth Day Party for the Planet!
Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle along with the new education coordinator from Orange Grove visited The Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22) for the “Party for the Planet.” Chattanoogans lined up to meet Rocky and learn more about recycling in Chattanooga! Families of all sizes wanted their photo taken with Rocky and took home information cards about curbside pickup, convenience centers and what is/is not recyclable. Miniature stuffed animal versions of Rocky were given to children along with coloring pages and Recycle Right stickers. Although the Zoo was quite crowded on Earth Day, one couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone wearing a Recycle Right sticker or holding a mini-Rocky Raccoon or information page. Team Recycle answered questions from visitors to the Zoo about recycling in Chattanooga and had photo examples of recyclable items to show Chattanoogans all the various items they can keep out of the landfill by recycling. |

Earth Week at Rock Point Books with kids!
For Earth Week, Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle hosted a celebration at Rock Point Books for Earth Day. There was a special reading of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax and the children participated in a coloring ring to color pictures of Rocky and some recyclables. Free mini-Rocky the Recycling Raccoon plushes were given away and each child got to meet the real, live Rocky and have his or her picture made with Chattanooga’s most avid recycler. |

Rocky greets Chattanoogans headed to work!
It was a noisy morning if you entered the city by Veteran’s Bridge! Rocky the Recycling Raccoon and Team Recycle volunteers were out during rush-hour traffic on the corner of Georgia Avenue and 4th Street in Chattanooga raising awareness about Recycle Right. As Rocky and his friends waved to countless commuters entering the city, his presence received happy honks, return waves and smiles. Some citizens working at a nearby construction site even left their duties behind to have their picture taken with Rocky. |
